Jaleel takes Tulum

This year has worn me out.

From teaching to working on my new series, developing public programming, Running Project OutLoud, I have been operating on E for some time. One of my goals for this year was to finally get my passport. I know, I know don’t all judge me at once, ok. I was one of thoseeeee BUT AS OF 5.16: I got my passport! Being the impulsive aquarius that I am, The following day I booked a solo trip to Tulum, Mexico where I visited from May 31st - June 3rd. Might as well break this passport in. It was such a good time and I got a chance to relax by the pool, meet new people, and get away from everything. My first international solo trip was a success. Here are things I learned while traveling out of the country for the first time by myself:

1. Don’t let anybody talk you out of doing it. I don’t care how scary it sounds, go!

2. In the words of @cedtheentertainer: If ya got credit, get it okkkk.

3. Always bring crochet stuff to work on because it’s a conversation starter. I kept getting stopped by other folks who crochet or were just interested in how fast my hands were going and was able to make some new friends.

4. Moving forward, I will make it a priority to book atleast 1 photoshoot wherever I’m visiting. This is my chance to have my americas next top model moment🤣.

5. Convert money to local currency because they’re gonna snatch up those dollar bills fast!

This trip was a 10/10. I faced some of my fears, met new people along the way, looked GOODT AF, and got a chance to relax finally. June 4th marked my 6 year anniversary of coming out and Tulum was the perfect spot to reset. Until next time! Happy pride month!
